Abstract

Translated and with an Introduction by Chris Turner, these 1965 works of Ranciere’s describe a series of ‘fragments of journeys into new worlds’: Wordsworth’s travels in revolutionary France in the early 1790s, the South Seas voyage of Claude Genout in 1831, the expedition of Saint-Simonian missionaries in the French Orient in 1833 and the meeting in Strasburg between the French and German writers Jean Jacques Rousseau and Georg Buchner.
