Abstract
In UK welfare debates, equality and economic growth are often treated as opposites: one inevitably comes at the expense of the other. But evidence that more equal societies are more innovative suggests a need to rethink the assumption that redistributive welfare policies and progressive taxation disincentivise innovation and entrepreneurship.
