Abstract
The next election campaign has begun – and Labour will be judged very differently next time. Criticism of Labour’s ‘shallow’ support at the 2024 election is simplistic, but nevertheless there are reasons to believe that Labour’s base is fragile. Relying on economic growth – even if Labour succeeds in improving UK economic performance – to reward and replenish the party’s base is risky.
