Abstract
A Starmer government will likely struggle to maintain popularity in office. In the desperate bid to win the support of socially conservative ‘hero voters’, Labour has failed to offer principled and bold alternatives to the Conservatives. The strategy seems to have worked in 2024. But if the Labour leader wants a second term in office, he needs to offer more than competent management.
