Cyber-Communes: A Framework for Decentralised Organisational Structures in Digital Anarchist Federations

Abstract
This research presents a comprehensive framework for understanding and implementing organisational structures within anarchistic federations. Drawing from cybernetics, network theory and anarchist principles, we propose the ‘cybercommune’ as a fundamental organisational unit that enables voluntary association while preserving autonomy. The paper synthesises anarchist principles, cybernetic theory, and modern governance frameworks to address the tension between organisational structure and anti-authoritarian forms of emergent association. By delineating boundaries rather than rules, emphasising transformative and reparative justice over punitive measures, and utilising graph theory to model relationships between communes, this research establishes a paradigm for understanding post-hierarchical organisational systems in networked environments. The study demonstrates how cybernetic principles of viability and purpose interact with anarchist values of autonomy and mutual aid to create resilient, self-regulating communities capable of operating at scale while maintaining antiauthoritarian commitments.
