Abstract

In this article we present to readers some of the benefits, for children and adults, of
establishing a school meeting. We give an account of how such a meeting (termed
a ‘moot’) was introduced in a small rural school and the ways in which it developed
through its own momentum. We consider how its successes arose from the established
ethos of the school and the relationships between adults and children. We invite readers
to reflect on the value of education as a partnership between children and adults. We
have included two sections of text written in the first person by Emily in her role as class
teacher and head of school.
