Abstract

To discuss the future of teaching, we need to understand the epistemology and function of ‘future’ in policymaking and its role in the critique of – and development of – educational judgement. The concept of ‘future’ plays a key role in the making of any crisis – real or fictional. A crisis is set strategically to challenge current arrangements. The imagination of a better future may at the same time serve as a potent source of critique and development of new judgement in educational thinking and practices.
