Abstract

The dissolution of Yugoslavia has developed into a contemporary tragedy of gigantic proportions. In the eyes of world opinion, the civil war and ethnic cleansing taking place in, above all, Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo have not only brought social progress to an abrupt halt but have turned it sharply backwards. Out of this debris the previously relatively unknown but highly sophisticated Yugoslavian debate on ideological and social evolution has been brought to a wider European forum. This article by Branka Likic-Brboric is a brilliant reflection of this debate, and it suggests ways of developing new leftist approaches in new democracies base on the Slovenian example.
